| Every second year there is a European championship for sheet metal apprentices. It is organized by FESI, the insulation association for European associations. This year it will take place in Stavanger, Norway in the beginning of September. Sweden will there defend the gold medal, won in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2008, by the Swedish apprentice Jimmie Waardahl from BIS Isenta Norr AB.

The IF School's principal task is to train insulation apprentices, working in companies in Sweden occupied with technical insulation, theoretically and practically during 12 weeks of their appren-ticeship period of four years. Technical insulation is the collecting name for domestic and industrial insulation. The companies work with insulation of hot and cold installations and air ducts both at new construction sites and rebuilding of properties. It also means that they work within large industries, insulating pipes, boilers, and storage tanks.
To become an insulator or a sheet metal insulator means that you start working in an insulation company as an apprentice during four years. As mentioned above you will during this period be trained at the IF-School. The school is mobile which means that the teacher comes to where you are instead of you going to a certain school.
The courses last for two weeks at a time. The cost is 19 000 Swedish crowns for this period.
The business has taken a common responsibility for the training of apprentices. This means that every insulation company in Sweden pays the amount of one crown per working hour to a certain company. This money is specially marked for training and goes back to the companies, employing apprentices. This means they are usually compensated with about half the amount of the courses.
The IF school's strategy is to use a mobile system, which means that the school is mostly going to where the apprentices are. Easy for both students and businesses.
